We are updating our Privacy Policy due to some changes we’re making at QuillBot, aimed at providing you with the best possible online writing assistant everywhere you use QuillBot.
While we strongly encourage you to read the preview of our new Privacy Policy, we’ve summarized the key changes here:
-
If you use our browser extensions (on versions 4.37.0 and above):
We previously asked for your consent to store your text inputs to help improve QuillBot. Moving forward, we will no longer require consent, and we’ll be storing text inputs for all extensions users by default, with the ability to opt out. We are doing this in order to provide a consistent, high-quality, and personalized writing experience in all of the places you use QuillBot. You can learn more in the FAQ on our Trust Page.
We’ve replaced the consent control in your account settings with two more granular controls to opt out of (1) storing your text inputs (available to all users), and (2) using your text inputs for training the models that power our AI tools (available to account-holders only). For account-holders, your prior consent setting will be applied to the new control for training (e.g. if you previously gave consent, you will be opted in). Storing text inputs will be on by default for everyone. When you make a change to your controls, it applies to your account settings from that point on. To make or change your opt out choices, click the QuillBot extension icon to open your Extension Settings, click on View All Settings, and navigate to the Data and Privacy menu.
-
If you use our desktop app:
In the future we’ll store text inputs from all desktop users to provide and personalize the QuillBot experience, and input processing will no longer occur solely in real-time. When we do, we’ll notify you and offer you the same controls for storage and training as we do on the extension.
-
For QuillBot users in the European Economic Area and UK:
For browser extension users, our lawful basis for storing inputs to improve QuillBot is now legitimate interest and not based on consent.
We added language to clarify the lawful basis for processing for training our models and improving our services.
-
For everyone:
We revised the list of personal data we collect when you use any of our services or features, to simplify our definitions and remove outdated descriptions. We also reformatted and refined several sections to make our Privacy Policy easier to understand.
If you are a Team Plan customer, we’ll continue to exclude Team Plan user inputs to train our language models by default.
As always, we remain committed to your privacy and being transparent about our practices. You can read more about how we work to protect your privacy and security when you use QuillBot on our Trust Page.
